Boots on the Ground  –  Summer Trip 2019

Dear Friends of The Gem,

May I share with you from my heart today? I am writing you because you sincerely care about
The Gem Foundation and the special needs orphans and vulnerable children we serve. The
Gem has an urgent need for “Boots on the Ground” and I’m hoping that some of you can and
will answer the call.

I want to invite you to join me this summer the help protect the future home of the Gems at
Gem Village! To put it very simply they need us and so do EmmaLee and Joshua.

The Need: To construct a perimeter fence to secure the land of Gem Village.

Why?

  1. In Uganda, it is very common for villagers to begin using other people’s property and
    claim ownership soon thereafter. We currently own 88 acres which includes; the 3
    homes and medical center under construction; the cemetery where Mattie was recently
    buried; land we farm for sustainability; and land we are planting trees for later harvest
    and sustainability. It is almost impossible to keep “eyes on the property” at all time and
    we need to protect the grave sites as well as the rest of the land.
  2. We want to protect our precious children from those who practice witchcraft or
    would intend evil to our children. An interior fence is being constructed around the
    actual village area and a secondary fence around the 88 acres.

Dates: June 22nd – June 30th : We are making the trip a few days shorter to not use up too
much of your vacation time.  Sometimes employers will give you some of the days off as their
contribution – don’t be afraid to ask!

Cost: $750 plus airfare: We cut the team cost in half to get as many of you to the field as
possible. Simply put – We need you at this time!  The team fee includes lodging,
transportation to and from the airport in Uganda, our transport in Uganda, meals and water.
Essentially everything you need while in Uganda.
Flights:

  1. You can book your own flight and we will work out pick up.
  2. You can book through our travel agent and meet up with the team in Dulles.

My final rambling thoughts:

  1. If God wants you to go just do it! Quit waiting for the perfect time!
  2. Go as a team! Take a few from your church, small group, or business.
  3. As a church, small group or business send a representative to work on your behalf!
  4. Sponsor others to go if you can’t!

Timing: The time is now please don’t delay! We have to know right away if we have a team
to do the work.

Thanks for listening! Contact me at dwight@ivo.global!
Together we will make a difference this summer!

God Bless You, Dwight

PS: From one of my heroes C. T. Studd:

“Two little lines I heard one day, Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart, And from my mind would not depart;

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.
Only one life, yes only one, Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet, And stand before His Judgment seat;
Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
